Papaw’s Deep-Fried Butterby The Hillbilly Dude
I never say Papaw make this one myself, but my oldest brother and parents talked about it when I was growin' up. Deep-Fried Butter is one of those foods intended only for those who like delicious stuff.

Preparation
Just like most Southern recipes, start with a cast iron skillet. I always say better ingredients make better dishes - so I prefer butter with higher butter fat, along with organic or local cornmeal.
Ingredients
- Butter, 1 stick (cold)
- Cornmeal, 1 cup
- Salt to Taste
- Oil for frying, avocado is great
Directions
-
Start cold.
With your hands, roll the butter into pencil shapes.
-
Freeze Butter.
Put the pencil-shaped butter into the freezer until solid.
-
Bread the Butter.
Roll the butter pencils into salted cornmeal thickly.
-
Freeze Again.
Put the cornmeal pencils into the freezer until solid.
-
Fry Then Safely.
Gently place the butter pencils into the oil until golden brown.
★ If you wanna get crazy with it, fry it in leftover bacon grease! ★
Origin
This is a recipe I heard about when I was tiny. Papaw and Granny had a dairy farm, so it's possible he used home-churned butter (which is the best butter you'll ever taste).
