This expression became recognizable through King of Queens, where Carrie Heffernan uses it to comment-none too gently-on Arthur’s figure.

The phrase sounds Southern because biscuits and butter are baked into Southern food culture, and food-based metaphors are common in Southern humor.

But there is no record of this being a traditional Southern or Appalachian saying. It does not appear in early dialect collections or regional sources. It emerged in the late 20th to early 21st century through television.

Verdict: Southernish. Pop-culture born, Southern-sounding, not historically Southern.
